When muslims debate the morality of terrorism (article in WSJ) they should read the Koran or even better the Bible. In both one finds the story of Abraham who was to offer his son. Modern explanation is not that God demands absolute obedience. At the time what belonged to the deity was offered, thrown into the fire. So Abraham had to recognize that not he was master over his son. Neither are political or religious leaders. It ended well for Izak; in other words God allows life and individual freedom.
Since Darwin we know that there is evolution and one should realize that spiritual development has its way too. Probably the Danish cartoonist who made a drawing with a bomb under the tulband of prophet Mohammed was not aware of the function that religon can and has to fullfil when state law is unknown. Generally religion uses commandments, while governments stick to forbidding. This is reflected nicely when those commandments lead to a harmonious society while present worldly regimes favour own class and make rules not to touch existing order. Induction to contribution of realizing heaven on Earth may follow. Such sometimes in a totally wrong way! Older men with greed for power cheat young persons then to terroristic suicide. The devil smiles. Satan puts a bomb under the hat of Mohammed and if the cartoonist had been better informed he might have visualized that devil, which is sneaky. Why not send a journalist to the Dane, give explanation and propose to complete his drawing with this seducing opponent of God? The Supreme of course cannot be content with a minimum of evil remaining. When the children of the nazi extermination camps step in the shoes of their fathers they better are smashed against the walls. But Bibel and Koran are explicit that ultimate revenge is to Him only.
 
Yet we can try to make an end to the manifold terroristic suicide acts. Presently the western countries have Roman law, made by an elite, which will not harm itself. So misdeeds are not punishable if not forbidden by written law and you can try to evade tax in another clever way. Geert Wilders is unable to erade half of the Koran by fire. The same regarding rich persons who think that the state steals from them and want to burn the concerning tax law. Before the technics of writing were mastered western Europe had ewa law, which is trying to find righteous solutions. There were no prisons for long stay and compensation after evil deeds varied between hanging and paying the victims money. Art 7b of the European Declaration of rights ressembles this ewa for unforeseen cases. So arrangements can be made to punish the group, the family, the clan, the village from where the murderer descends, p.e send them into hard labour, have them pay compensation to the other group, family, clan, village, those who have to mourn a victim, got a big loss forever. That satisfies the rule of a tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye. This has a limiting function, but often it is misread as allowing to take a precious eye for a simple slain out tooth. Precisely so do the imams who favour terroristic action instead of struggling the right jihad, which is being in the army of God to fight the devil and evil. Instead of co-humans, creatures of God and belonging to Him only. Not their fate may be in the hands of those who lend their ear to the devil or to propagated devilish atmosphere.
