In the USA people in rural areas generally are rather poor while capitalism dominates the city centers. It is the wealthy upper class that governs and this is their result. With a few exceptions, creating national parks, the humans ruthlessly took possession of the ground, considering interests of animals and plants of little importance or not at all. In a lifetime iron became very popular and people drag it around up to several thousands of kilograms, which they call a limousine. This necessitates creation of asphalt and concrete in large abundance, making the world very ugly. Imagine how nice the country will be with only half of its present population. Bad buildings can be demolished. Asphalt changes into woodland with lots of animals. There won't be bio-industry and less agricultural land is needed. Foreign policy can aim on cutting loose from states like Antarctica the Amazone-forest, the Himalaya, the Sahara, the North Pole regions, to become undisturbed domain of wild flora and fauna. But there will still be beggars and homeless people if the rich stay in power with the police at their service, if America does not elect a president and a Congress directly and decides not on main topics via referenda. Sadly enough this is not discussed at the universities, no plans for collectivisation are made there while it is very well known that multinationals disturb markets and try to evade tax.
