Dagens Nyheter,
The USA has a policy of containing Russia like before the Sovjet Union and to this purpose suits that Turkey is a NATO member. Americans have big guns and heavy bombs, but if p.e. a Baltic country where one third of the population is russian gets more than endangered Washington may think it wise not to escalate. But who knows, especially which future president and supreme commander will sit in the White House with giant amounts of TNT in his store?
More to the south many countries have problems regarding borderlines. Therefore a big conference handling these may be organised by the European Union on the base proclaimed in the preambule of its Treaties: acknowledging equal rigths for every person plus of course the duty to correct violations. Preparation can be organised in a big ARK on the waters of Amsterdam or Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo by researchers, active to find acceptabel solutions; while public may contribute in several ways.
When a border is disputed instead of a line a humanfree zone may be installed. Such in agreement with disconnecting the Amazone-forest, the North Pole regions, the Sahara, the Himalaya from states like Antarctica to become undisturbed domain of wild flora and fauna.
Turkey is of little importance for the defense of the EU countries except that it has a lot of soldiers who may keep russian ones busy. Population there now is 80 million, while a century ago only ten million lived there. The turks committed severe crimes to other peoples and shifted the border eastwards. Remember also what happened in the USA in 1890. Turkish identity is best achieved in own country and giving turkish immigrants dubbel nationality is discriminating as they may participate then in elections twice. The moslim religion, although as civilised persons understand is acceptable to God, is not on good terms with western culture. So Turkey leaving the NATO or being expelled won't be a big loss for swedes and other europeans. Neither for the USA since Russia became rather weak militarily. That weakness should be exploited by Europe to suppress tension. Research may aim to get bigger neutral territory like a neutral block of the Scandinavian states plus the Benelux. This opens the possibility to store superfluous nucleair explosives in for enemies not easy accessible Norwegian fjords. Some of the nasty things must remain on planet Earth to change course of incoming meteorites.
Both Ukraine and Russia are big enough and won't be harmed by loosing or get rid of some territory where the inhabitants may choose while UNO forces supersee. And why not shift the Armenian border a bit westwards on their beloved mount Ararat. The adjacent region is kurdish and the EU should help to get the wanted kurdisch state. The kurds, the tibetians, the papua's have own history, culture, language and therefore the right to be masters in an own nation. Not so the palestinian arabs on the Westbank, who want to rob Israel from its capital, that due to foreign agression could not function for two thousand years. Shamefully western governments refuse to have their embassy there. If the arabs had abstained form their population explosion, meant to drive the israeli's into the sea, there would be almost no problems. Normalisation can exist of a maximum of one third jews on the Westbank and similary one third arabs in the rest of Israel from river to the sea. Many problems are caused by relative surpopulation. DNA-registration will make it possible to take sanctions. The german woman in Brussel with six children must be removed from office. Egoism drives humans to oppress and enslave. One may argue that the proposed neutral northern union within the EU of Scandinavia plus Benelux is necessary because the USA, France, Britain, Germany put material well being on top of their agenda and often neglect human rights, which they know very well from christianity. People in that northern block do not behave better but their states are less involved in world matters and together they can promote peaceful relations on Earth by chasing evil-doers and stop NATO expansion.
